Manitoba is proposing to strengthen its multi-material stewardship program with a new Packaging and Printed Paper Stewardship Regulation under The Waste Reduction and Prevention (WRAP) Act. This new regulation is based on the principles of extended producer responsibility. It will require product stewards to develop a plan to manage residential recyclables in the province. At a later date, public comments will be sought on the industry stewardship plan.
The Draft Packaging and Printed Paper Stewardship Regulation (français) and Stewardship Regulation Guidelines for Product Stewards are available for your review prior to being finalized by government. When adopted, these documents will specify the obligations and expectations for businesses and other designated activities that sell or supply packaged goods or printed paper, such as magazines and flyers, in Manitoba.
You will find an overview of the new regulation and comparison with the existing Multi-Material Stewardship (Interim Measures) Regulation here.
