Project WILD
Project WILD is an
environmental education program emphasizing wildlife. The Project Wild Activity Guide,
available in both English and French, contains over 150 activities that deal with various
aspects of the environment and wildlife in all its forms.
Sponsored in Canada by the Canadian Wildlife Federation, Project WILD activities and
materials are intended to enrich existing subject areas. Some activities develop skills in
language arts, others in mathematics, science, social studies, art, and physical
education. The history of the program, can be found
at the
CWF
Project WILD website.
Project WILD Activity Guides and support materials are provided only to those who
complete a workshop.
Project WILD in Manitoba
The Wildlife and Ecosystem Protection Branch delivers Project WILD here in Manitoba under agreement with the
CWF. The program has been reviewed by the Manitoba Department of Education and approved
for use as supplementary materials from Kindergarten to Grade 12.
Project WILD workshops are provided to teachers, service organizations, and to other
groups that are active in either formal or informal learning environments. A corps of
workshop facilitators run these events on in-service training days or at times of mutual
convenience. Typically, a workshop runs from 9:00am to 3:30pm and accommodates 15-30
people. The organization requesting the workshop provides the use of a classroom and
gymnasium (or other suitable facility such as a community hall). There is a charge of $20
per workshop attendee.
The workshops are always lively and informative, with instructors putting themselves in
the place of their students and participating directly in a representative sampling of
activities.
