Manitoba Hunting Guide

Big Game Hunting

Gray Wolf Hunting

There is no tagging requirement for gray wolves.

Resident

  • A resident may hunt gray wolves during the wolf season if they possess any big game hunting licence for the current licence year. However, if hunting in a GHA while the area is open to deer, elk, moose, black bear or caribou hunting, the wolf hunter must have an unused deer, elk, moose, black bear or caribou game tag (personal or party), which is valid for that area, species and time period. Where the deer, elk, moose, black bear or caribou hunting seasons are closed, a resident may hunt wolves provided he is in possession of used or unused deer, elk, moose, black bear or caribou game tag (personal or party).

Non-resident

  • A non-resident and non-resident alien may hunt gray wolves during the wolf season only if they possess an unused deer, moose, black bear or caribou game tag (personal or party), which is valid for that area, species and time period.
  • Non-resident alien gray wolf hunters must be accompanied by a licensed Manitoba guide. No more than three hunters may use the services of a guide at the same time.
  • Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) export permits are required before transporting a gray wolf out of Canada.

Coyote Hunting

There is no tagging requirement for coyotes.

Resident

  • A resident may hunt coyote during the coyote season if they possess any big game hunting licence for the current licence year. However, if hunting in a GHA while the area is open to deer, elk, moose, black bear or caribou hunting, the coyote hunter must have an unused deer, elk, moose, black bear or caribou game tag (personal or party), which is valid for that area, species and time period. Where the deer, elk, moose, black bear or caribou hunting seasons are closed, a resident may hunt coyotes provided he/she is in possession of either a used or unused deer, elk, moose, black bear or caribou game tag (personal or party).

Non-Resident

  • A non-resident and non-resident alien may hunt coyote during the coyote season only if they possess an unused deer, moose, black bear or caribou game tag (personal or party), which is valid for that area, species and time period.
  • Non-resident alien coyote hunters must be accompanied by a licensed Manitoba guide.
  • No more than three hunters may use the services of a guide at the same time.

Note: Sunday hunting restrictions apply to some GHAs. Coyote is an important fur bearing wildlife and Manitoba trappers rely upon this species to supplement their income.  Hunters please respect the trapper’s right to harvest coyotes as a fur bearer.  The Department will be monitoring this season to ensure that coyote populations are sustainable and other changes may be necessary in succeeding years.
