Moose Hunting

Licences

You require a moose hunting licence to hunt this species in Manitoba. Licences can be purchased at Manitoba Conservation offices throughout the province, or at participating vendors.

Licence Exchange

No one can purchase and possess more than one moose licence in a licence year.

Hunters may exchange an unused moose licence, without receiving a refund for that licence, in order to purchase a nondraw moose licence at full price. Licence exchanges can only be done at Manitoba Conservation offices where licences are sold.

Conservation Moose Licence Resident

Moose hunters may voluntarily participate in a conservation initiative by purchasing a Conservation Moose Licence. The regular moose licence for the non-draw rifle season is issued on a one-licence/one tag basis and costs $49.07. The Conservation Moose Licence Package consists of two licences and one tag allowing for a shared harvest of one moose. When the tag is filled, the hunters cannot form a party with any other licence holder. The package cost is $78.52 ($39.26 for each licence). Conservation Moose Licences are available at all hunting licence vendor locations. Both hunters must appear in person to purchase a Conservation Moose Licence. If both hunters cannot be present, the purchase must be made at a Manitoba Conservation office.

Proof that the absent hunter qualifies for the licence must be presented at the time of purchase. Conservation Moose Licences are not available for landowner seasons.

Non-resident Alien

  • Non-resident alien moose hunters must book their hunt through a registered lodge or outfitter, authorized to outfit non-resident alien moose hunters.
  • Non-resident alien moose hunters must be accompanied by a licensed Manitoba guide. No more than three hunters may use the services of a guide at the same time.
  • Non-resident alien moose hunters must only use the services of the outfitter specified on their hunting licence.

Definitions

  • "Bull" means a moose with antlers more than 10 cm. (4 in.) in length.
  • "Calf" means a moose that is less than one year old.

Additional Information

Parts of 2A, 4, 7A and 17A are closed to moose hunting.

GHA 20 is closed to non-resident Canadian hunters.

Hunters are advised to consult the Big Game Draw applications yearly, as non-draw seasons may be placed on the big game draw.
