Manitoba Hunting Guide

Big Game Hunting

Wild Boar

Manitoba has been declared a wild boar control area, which means that a resident may take wild boar any time of the year. A hunting licence is not required to hunt wild boar, but the hunter must comply with other general hunting regulations, including the use of hunter orange during a big game season, and if hunting on private land have the permission of the land owner. There is no bag limit, possession limit or tagging requirements for wild boar.

Hunters are requested to report the taking of a wild boar within seven days to the Manitoba Conservation office nearest the location where the wild boar was taken. It is important to provide particulars including the location where the animal was killed, the number of other wild boars observed etc.

Please exercise discretion in the vicinity of a wild boar farm as the owner may be attempting to recapture these animals. Hunters are also advised to contact the Rural Municipality to inquire about by-laws that may prevent the discharge of firearms or prohibit hunting.

Further information regarding wild boar at large is available on the Wildlife and Ecosystem Protection Branch web site.
