Big Game Species Monitoring Program

Population Simulation

Once information on population estimates (aerial surveys), estimated legal harvest (questionnaire data) and age and reproductive data (biological samples) have been collected, computer models are then used to simulate the population dynamics of a big game species.

Wildlife managers can also use models to accurately predict the future status of a big game population as a result of changes in their numbers, habitat or other influencing factors. This "What if…?" capability of population modelling has proven to be very beneficial in population management.
