Legislation

Legislation Under Which Areas are Designated Under Manitoba's Protected Areas

Logging, mining or the development of oil, petroleum, natural gas or hydro-electric power are prohibited in Protected Areas.

Protected Areas in Manitoba include the following:

The Provincial Parks Act (C.C.S.M. c. P20), 39 areas designed by the Provincial Parks Designation Regulation, MR 37/97 (as amended), as wilderness parks or wilderness, backcountry or heritage land use categories within other classifications of parks, including temporarily designated park reserves.

The Ecological Reserves ActEcological Reserves Designation Regulation, MR 166/87 (as amended).

The Forest Act (C.C.S.M. c. F150), 2 areas, one designated by the Spruce Woods Provincial Forest Activities Management Regulation, MR 183/98 and one designated by the Porcupine Provincial Forest Activities Management Regulation, MR 75/2004.

The Wildlife Act (C.C.S.M. c. W130), 43 areas designated by the Use of Wildlife Lands Regulation, MR 77/99 (as amended)

Riding Mountain and Wapusk National Parks are federally designated lands, which also contribute to Manitoba's PAI.
