North End Water Pollution Control Facility: 9:15am -12pm

The North End Sewage Treatment Plant was opened on October 25th, 1937. The City of Winnipeg,
a pioneer in wastewater management, became the first city in Canada of over 100,000 people to
install sewage treatment. Since then the plant has been upgraded and expanded to become
the North End Water Pollution Control Centre. It is the largest of three wastewater treatment
facilities serving the City of Winnipeg, and provides primary and secondary activated sludge treatment,
and sludge processing.
The North
End Water Pollution Control Centre (NEWPCC) treats about 70% of Winnipeg's wastewater.
It services most of the old City of Winnipeg, part of St. Boniface, all of East, West, North
and Old Kildonan, Transcona and part of St. James.

The present City Hall is the result of a design competition held in the early 1960's. The winning design was representative of post war trends in both architecture and urban planning - a functional blend of modernist architecture and the civic centre concept. It consists of two buildings: the Administration Building and the Council Building.
Participants will tour public spaces of the Council Building which includes the Council Chamber and a public gallery for 200, the Mayor's Portrait Gallery, the Mayor's Foyer and two committee rooms along with a photo exhibit of the civil service titled At Your Service!
Library and Archives Canada: 9am-11am and 1pm-3pm

Tours will consist of a brief description of the Regional Service Centre role within Library and Archives Canada and the Federal Government. The Archivist will explain his role is preserving our heritage. This will be followed by a tour of the facility and classroom time to browse Library and Archives Canada's website to offer research information regarding Canadian history, holdings and Genealogical references.
Manitoba Legislative Grounds and Greenhouses: 1pm-2pm
Provincial - 446 Assiniboine Avenue
REGISTRATION FULL *Transportation will not be provided. Maximum 20 participants.
Manitoba's Government Legislative Grounds and Greenhouses, located at 446 Assiniboine Avenue is responsible for the Grounds Maintenance surrounding the Legislative Building. The total area consists of 32.8 acres of mature trees, flower beds and shrubs. The Greenhouses grow annual plants for the summer season, seasonal specialty crops and tropical plants for interior spaces.
The Legislative Grounds provide a much needed green space in central Winnipeg for public use as well as visiting tourists.
The tour is an hour long and will include a brief orientation, tour of the Greenhouses and garden areas surrounding the Legislative Building. Top of page

Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) was created in 1994 to link immigration services with citizenship registration; and promote the unique ideals all Canadians share and help build a stronger Canada.
The department admits immigrants, foreign students, visitors and temporary workers who help Canada's social and economic growth; resettles, protects and provides a safe haven for refugees; helps newcomers adapt to Canadian society and become Canadian citizens; and manages access to Canada to protect the security and health of Canadians and the integrity of Canadian laws. Royal Canadian Mint: 1:30pm-2:15pm

A guided tour of the Winnipeg manufacturing facility which produces all of Canada's circulation
coins, from the 1-cent coin to the bi-metallic $2 dollar coin. The Winnipeg Mint is the
powerhouse of Canada's high-volume coin production, producing up to 15 million plated coins each
day for Canadian and foreign circulation - as many as 1000 coins a minute! The Royal Canadian
Mint also produces circulation currency for over 75 nations worldwide.
Archives of Manitoba: 1pm-2pm
Provincial - 200 Vaughan Street Transportation will not be provided. Maximum 15 participants. REGISTRATION FULL
Tour will include a description of the Archives' role and functions, including the Hudson's Bay Company Archives. Participants will be given a tour of the Archives' reading room and the Hudson's Bay Company Archives visual vault.
Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service: 9:30am-12pm
Municipal- Station #1-65 Ellen Street REGISTRATION FULL Transportation will not be provided. maximum 16 participants.
Partcipants will tour the facility and be given a demonstration of equipment including apparatus (trucks), personal protective equipment and self contained breathing apparatus. A presentation on safe work practices, job hazards, wellness and public education will also form part of the tour.
Be advised that the WFPS members may be called out on an emergency during the tour which may affect the duration and content of the tour. Top of page
