Throughout the year, Manitobans enjoy a wide variety of sports activities at professional, amateur and recreational levels. Winnipeg is home to three professional teams. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers (Canadian Football League) can be seen at the 29,550 seat Canad Inns Stadium. The Winnipeg Goldeyes (Northern Baseball League) provide Manitobans with professional baseball at Canwest Global Park, and the Manitoba Moose (American Hockey League) offer professional hockey at the new 15,000-seat MTS Centre downtown.
Most communities in Manitoba have arenas, curling rinks, baseball fields and other developed recreation facilities. For example, in Winnipeg there are:
Approximately 30 fitness/cycling trails and 11 municipal fitness/leisure centres. The YM/YWCA operates 4 fully equipped athletic facilities and there are over 60 privately-owned fitness clubs.
13 municipally-run indoor public swimming pools and 10 seasonal outdoor public pools.
20 curling rinks
3 indoor tennis clubs, and outdoor public tennis courts in every community
29 indoor skating/hockey rinks and over 70 outdoor rinks
27 golf courses -- 7 private, 7 semi-private, and 13 public
The following list offers an idea of the variety of opportunities available. In addition to casual participation, each of the following provides opportunities for organized participation, managed by a provincial organization.
