Southport is a Property Management and Development Company supporting aviation, training and commercial initiatives. It covers over 1550 acres and its primary use is that of an airport utilized for flight training by CATC. Due to its clear, uncluttered skies and flat geography, Southport is ideally suited for a flight training facility.
Southport is a very active aerospace operation with Transport Canada approval airport certification.
The prime tenant, Allied Wings operates Canada's first private, air traffic control tower, as well as general airfield operations. The airport is serviced by an operational VFR tower with IFR services including a NDB, VOR, DME and ILS. There are four asphalt runways at Southport, the longest being 7,000 feet.
Allied Wings provides military flying training in accordance with the Contracted Flying Training and Support program at the Canada Wings Aviation Training Centre in Southport.
Southport is home to the nationally-accredited Aircraft Maintenance Engineer Apprenticeship Program which is provided by Red River College Stevenson Aviation Technical Training Centre.
There are a wide variety of business opportunities at Southport including aircraft manufacturing, aircraft maintenance engineering, aviation technology, airport equipment overhaul and refinishing, air traffic control training, and commercial manufacturing.
