Manitoba

  • The Vulnerable Persons Living with Mental Disability Act promotes and protects the rights of adults living with a mental disability who need assistance to meet their basic needs. The legislation recognizes those Manitobans as “vulnerable persons”.
  • Prohibiting Discrimination Because of a Disability - The Manitoba Human Rights Code Fact Sheet: Prohibiting Discrimination Because of Disability: The Manitoba Human Rights Code prohibits unreasonable discrimination arising from a person's actual or perceived physical or mental disability.
  • Bill 13 - Appropriate Educational Programming – What is Bill 13 - Appropriate Educational Programming? What is the purpose of Bill 13?
  • Public Trustee How does the public trustee become involved? The Public Trustee is a trustee of last resort and becomes involved in administering clients' personal and financial affairs or estates only when required to do so.
  • The Protection for Persons In Care Act is a law to help protect adults from abuse while receiving care in personal care homes, hospitals or any other designated health facility.

Government of Canada

  • The Office for Disability Issues (ODI) is the focal point within the Government of Canada for key partners working to promote the full participation of Canadians with disabilities in learning, work and community life.

British Columbia

  • Minister's Council on Employment for Persons with Disabilities Information for Persons with Disabilities
  • The Disability Lens is a tool for identifying and clarifying issues affecting persons with disabilities. It provides government policy and program developers and analysts with a framework for considering and addressing the impacts of any initiative (policy, program or decision) on persons with disabilities.

Alberta

  • Office for Disability Issues Branch – Alberta Seniors and Community Supports is home to the Office for Disability Issues (ODI). The ODI is a central place to discuss disability issues, and strengthen long-term planning to address the needs of Albertans with disabilities.

Saskatchewan

  • The Office of Disability Issues serves as a focal point for government initiatives on disabilities. The Office is a vehicle for collaboration and partnership with the disability community.

Ontario

  • Accessibility Ontario Ontario Government Accessibility Plans
    The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005
  • The Accessibility Directorate of Ontario is designed to provide information, useful resources, best practices and motivation to organizations, communities and interested individuals working together to make Ontario more inclusive and accessible to everyone.
  • Mandate of the Accessibility Standards Advisory Council: The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (the "act"), requires that the Minister of Community and Social Services establish the Accessibility Standards Advisory Council. The council is an advisory agency.
