Do you support individuals with an intellectual disability, as a staff person or family member?  Are you someone labeled as intellectually disabled who wants to change what you do during the day?  Are you struggling to plan days, either for yourself of others, that are full of meaningful activities that build on gifts, abilities and interests?  Well join the crowd!

This two-day workshop will focus on:

  • Why is it difficult to design and implement supports for people of all ages, who have the label of intellectual disability, to have full, meaningful days?
  • What kind of a vision is needed to guide our actions to effectively support people to be active, engaged and able to contribute to their community?
  • How do valued social roles help in making the vision a reality?

This workshop is intended to provoke thought, help to develop a vision from which to work, inspire positive action and give some very concrete ideas with which to implements supports.  It will be helpful for supporting people transitioning from school and adults all along the life span including those considering later life day-time roles.  You will be asked to plan for one particular person but can then utilize your experiences to assist others to have a Meaningful Day.
