Honourable
Steve Ashton
Minister responsible for Emergency Measures
Thank you for visiting the Manitoba Emergency Measures Organization website.
Over recent years, the number of major emergencies around the world has led to increased attention on emergency preparedness. While these are striking examples of the important need to prepare, there are just as many examples from here in Manitoba. We’ve seen first-hand the damage that can result from emergencies such as floods, fires, transportation accidents and tornadoes – it makes an important point that it truly can happen here, and an even more important point about the need for each of us to be prepared.
Everyone has a responsibility for emergency preparedness. As individuals, we are all expected to take reasonable steps to prepare for emergencies and take care of ourselves and our families. Businesses need to take develop plans that will let them work through a disruption and meet their obligations. Governments have a responsibility to develop a comprehensive framework for disaster mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery.
On this site, you will find information on what we can do as individuals, businesses, and governments to prepare for emergencies. Manitobans have shown they take seriously their responsibility to prepare for emergencies, and the result is one of the strongest systems of emergency preparedness in the country.
