I am delighted to announce the opening of the Office of the Manitoba Fairness Commissioner. The Office is responsible for the implementation of the Fair Registration Practices in Regulated Professions Act – legislation that will help immigrants from around the world fulfill their professional aspirations in Manitoba, and participate fully as citizens.
Fair registration is critical to qualifications recognition for immigrants to Manitoba. It is a matter of social justice and economic prosperity, and is part of our larger strategy to grow Manitoba through immigration.
It takes courage and strength to venture beyond one’s own country in search of new opportunities. Manitoba must support that courage and make sure internationally educated immigrants come here and thrive. The fairness of our registration practices has a direct bearing on that.
Internationally educated professionals, tradespeople and technologists have an increasing number of opportunities world-wide. To be a destination of choice Manitoba must continue to show leadership in providing prompt and fair recognition of international qualifications.
The opening of this Office helps us move forward. Let us use it to ensure internationally educated immigrants are able to thrive and to support our economic growth, enrich our culture and contribute to our social well-being.
