Our Fairness and Operating Principles...

  • Courtesy and respect - through behaviour that demonstrates professionalism, integrity, sensitivity and trust. This includes treating everyone with courtesy and respect.
  • Privacy and confidentiality – through a commitment to protect tax information from unauthorized disclosure, access and use. All tax information is confidential and collected in accordance with the taxation statutes we administer and The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
  • Dependability - through behaviour that demonstrates commitment and accountability.
  • Accurate and reliable assistance – in all oral and written tax interpretations, bulletins, notices and forms. This includes a commitment in providing accessible, accurate, consistent, clear and understandable information in a timely manner in writing, in person or by telephone.
  • Communication - through clearly explaining the obligations expected from taxpayers to comply with the taxes we administer.
  • Fairness - through objectivity, making just decisions in accordance with the laws we administer, with consistency, honesty and impartiality.
  • Resolution - through a resolve to fairly address any concerns with the levels of service provided or consistency in tax application. Disagreements regarding tax assessments can be appealed to the independent Tax Appeals Commission as outlined in information bulletin no. TAMTA 001 – Taxation Division Audits. An appeal to Court is also available if not satisfied with the decision rendered by the independent Tax Appeals Commissioner.
