What are the benefits of early childhood education as a career?
Working
in child care as an ECE really does help shape the future. High-quality
child care and nursery school programs help parents and children
reach their full potential. Parents gain more flexibility to pursue
their career goals. Children benefit from a caring and stimulating
environment that promotes their full development.
Research tells us that the first six years of life influence children
for the rest of their lives. In partnership with parents, child
care and nursery school programs staffed by trained ECEs can have
a major impact on how happy and successful a child is through the
school years and in later life.
There are many other benefits of a career in early childhood education,
including:
- Growing career opportunities
Because there is a current shortage, once you have completed your
post-secondary training, there will be many job opportunities
with a variety of centres and age groups. You will also be able
to work toward becoming a director of a child care centre.
- More options than ever before
Now that there is scientific evidence of the importance of early
childhood education, opportunities in related careers are also
growing. Consider one day becoming a child development counsellor,
working with children in a women's shelter or even becoming an
early childhood education college instructor.
- Diverse work environment
Working as an ECE in a licensed child care centre, nursery school
or family child care home in Manitoba will also give you opportunities
to work in diverse, multicultural environments.
- Shaping the future
Becoming an ECE helps families, communities and society. In partnership
with parents, it lays the foundation for children's future learning
in school, and it offers a chance to lay secure foundations for
the future of society.
