Already working in child care? Consider upgrading your classification through Competency Based Training

Competency based training enables Child Care Assistants (CCA's) already working in child care centres to obtain an ECE II classification level while they continue to work.

CCOThere are two types of competency based training offered by the Manitoba Child Care Program. One is called the Competency Based Assessment Program (CBA), and the other is called the Competency Based Assessment/Prior Learning Assessment Program (CBA/PLA).

To be eligible, you need to have at least one year of full time experience in a licensed child care facility. In addition, you need to have completed a minimum of six professional development experiences in the past two years, e.g., workshops, seminars, or child care related courses.

CBA is for CCA's who do not have a post-secondary diploma or degree. CBA/PLA is for CCA's who have a post-secondary diploma or degree not recognized for classification at the trained ECE II level.

Both provide eligible CCA's with the opportunity to demonstrate their skills, knowledge and judgement according to required standards.
