Employment and Income Assistance Facts
Medical Transportation
Employment and Income Assistance (EIA) may help pay transportation for medical
purposes, but you must choose the least expensive kind of
transportation first, in the following order:
- Public transportation (bus,
train, airplane). If you use your own vehicle when public
transportation is available, you will be paid
at the same rate as it would cost for the least expensive
form of public transportation.
- If no public transportation
is available and you have your own vehicle, you may be
paid for each mile or kilometer
driven.
- If no public transportation is available and
you do not have your own vehicle, you may use a taxi.
- If no public transportation or taxi services are available
and you do not have your own vehicle, you may hire
a privately-owned vehicle on a per kilometer or per mile
basis. EIA will
not pay for hiring privately-owned vehicles when a
licensed
carrier
like a taxi is available in the area.
If you have a disability which stops
you from using public transportation, or if you would have
to pay for extra expenses like babysitting or hotels to travel
for medical expenses, or if you need further information,
please contact your worker.
