Northern Rates – Basic Assistance for Single Persons, Couples Without Children and Two-Parent Families

The Employment and Income Assistance Regulation sets out basic assistance rates. Basic assistance rates are for basic living expenses only. If shelter costs are needed, they are given IN ADDITION to the basic rates (see Rental Guidelines and Security Deposits sheet).

If you would like more information about rates, please contact your worker.

Northern rates apply to you if you live in an area of Manitoba that is west of Lake Winnipeg and north of the 53rd latitude, or east of Lake Winnipeg and north of latitude 51° 12' and if you are living in an independent living situation. These rates do not apply when you are living in a board and room situation or in residential care, community residences, personal care homes, hospitals or institutions.

If you live in one of the following communities that do not have all-weather road, rail or water travel access: Berens River; Bloodvein; Brochet; Garden Hill; God's Lake Narrows; God's River; Granville Lake; Lac Brochet; Little Grand Rapids; Oxford House; Pauingassi; Poplar River; Pukatawagan; Red Sucker Lake; St. Theresa Point; Shamattawa; South Indian Lake; Tadoule Lake;Wasagamach; and York Landing.
