Employment and Income Assistance Facts

Rental Guidelines and Security Deposits

If you live in rented housing, Employment and Income Assistance (EIA) will pay your rent up to a maximum rate. EIA may also help you pay your damage or security deposit up to half of one month's rent guideline rate. Please talk to your worker if you need a damage or security deposit.

Maximum Rent Rates

If you get EIA benefits and live in private rented housing, EIA will pay you up to the following maximum rates for rent. These rates apply to all categories of EIA participants.

* The Manitoba Shelter Benefit for Persons on Income Assistance is available to adults without dependent children who are renting non-subsidized housing. The amount is $35 per month for persons renting an apartment and $15 for persons renting in a rooming house.
