If you are receiving Employment and Income Assistance you may be entitled to help with special needs costs. You will have to contact your worker to discuss your particular needs before costs are provided.
Financial assistance may be provided within the first three months of the birth of a child. This assistance is to provide needed items for a newborn baby, such as a crib and layette.
Assistance may be provided to help you pay for the repair, or the purchase, of a washing machine, refrigerator or stove.
If furnishings are not included in the rent, a one-time payment may be provided to help you get basic household furnishings. This assistance is available only if:
Assistance may be available to obtain a bed and bedding, where there is a need, and you have no other resources for these items. The cost of a mattress, box spring and frame, for each member in your household, may be covered once every seven years. Replacement bedding may be provided once every three years.
Assistance may be provided for moving costs when there is a good reason for the move, such as the unlivable conditions of your present residence, a change in family size, lower rent at the new location, or being closer to a job or training program.
A yearly amount may be provided for school supplies as follows:
| Kindergarten to grade 6 | $60 |
| Grades 7 and 8 | $80 |
| Grades 9 to 12 | $100 |
(Children attending nursery schools, in publicly funded schools only, may be eligible for up to $60 for supplies, if the school does not provide them.)
