Donna M.

For the past 11 years, Donna has shown herself to be a capable compensation analyst with the Canadian Wheat Board (CWB). Clearly, her being Hard of Hearing does not affect her ability to handle responsible work, such as compensation surveys and analysis, monitoring the company’s job evaluation system and helping with performance management.

Donna says she enjoys her job and working with her colleagues at CWB. Her insights into human resources management have come, not just from her daily work, but also from experience.

“Employers thinking about hiring people with disabilities should always tell existing staff that a person with disabilities is being hired and be prepared to answer any questions staff may have about the new employee’s disability,” says Donna. “Existing staff should know how to make the new employees feel comfortable and how to accommodate their needs.”

Accessibility means more than physical adaptation; it means making sure the workplace is welcoming and functional for everyone – including persons with disabilities.
