Thrive! - a five-year plan for helping Manitobans with autism spectrum disorders and their families

Starting Early

We are learning more about autism all the time. Most experts agree that early intervention is important to improve the quality of life later on in life. Support and services are available for Manitoba families who have children with autism. These include:

  • Children's disABILITY Services (ex: respite, child development for pre-school children, and Winnipeg's autism outreach program)
  • Manitoba's Children's Therapy Initiative (ex: physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech language pathology)
  • pre-school and school-age Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) programs
  • a protocol that helps the school prepare to meet a child's needs
  • consultative and student-specific support to schools from Manitoba Education and their partners
  • flexible training options and resources for educators
  • specific funding to schools from Manitoba Education for children with moderate to severe autism
  • school-based specialist teachers and clinicians
  • Inclusion Support Program (for licensed, early learning and child-care programs to include children with additional support needs)
