drop The Provincial Blood Programs Office promotes the development of a province-wide, coordinated, integrated and comprehensive (vein to vein) system of safe, secure, effective and affordable blood transfusion services.

Role of Manitoba Health

Leads the collaborative design of the Manitoba blood transfusion services system, policies and processes to ensure integrated, coherent and accountable service provision.
Monitors the Canadian Blood Services budget and service provision quality.
Negotiates annual financial contribution to Canadian Blood Services for the provision of blood services.
Collaborates with regional health authorities, Canadian Blood Services, College of Physicians and Surgeons, Diagnostic Services of Manitoba, Health Canada, Federal/Provincial/Territorial representatives to facilitate effective and efficient utilization management of blood products and services.
Analyzes data collected through the Adverse Event Reporting System and other provincial data systems to inform policy and quality enhancement decisions.
Monitors transfusion medicine system quality.
Administers the Manitoba Hepatitis C Assistance Program and serves as an information resource to Manitobans for financial compensation programs for individuals infected through contact with the Canadian blood supply prior to 1998.
Negotiates annual funding requirements for the Manitoba Quality Assurance Program delivered by the College of Physicians and Surgeons on behalf of Manitoba Health to ensure development and maintenance of quality laboratory and transfusion medicine standards and procedures.
Represents Manitoba on National F/P/T bodies and committees related to management of the Blood supply and other Transfusion Medicine issues.
