Risk factors help to indicate risk of disease.  Many chronic diseases, including  type 2 diabetes, share common risk factors that are changeable and controllable through lifestyle behaviours.  This means that many chronic diseases can be prevented by healthy behaviours such as:

Choosing healthier behaviours depends on much more than your will power.  Where we live, where we work, and support from family and friends are just some examples of how our lifestyles are influenced.  Creating conditions that encourage Manitobans to make healthier choices requires the coordinated effort of all sectors and levels of government, non-governmental organizations, and private industry.

Healthy Together Now (formerly known as the Chronic Disease Prevention Initiative) is designed to help communities address four risk factors that lead to chronic disease: smoking, physical activity, healthy eating and mental wellness. The vision is to improve the health of Manitobans through local partnerships, citizen engagement, and community development. For more information, please click here.
