Policies, Guidelines and Protocols

The Emergency Treatment Guidelines provide a framework and reference point for EMS personnel. The intent is to establish an acceptable standard for managing patients who are ill or injured. The Guidelines have been reviewed by a variety of physicians, EMS personnel, and others involved in the care of patients in the EMS environment. While every effort has been made to ensure the Guidelines are current and medically sound, it is inevitable that medical care will evolve. Every effort will be made to maintain these Guidelines so they reflect sound paramedical practice.

The Manitoba Emergency Services Medical Advisory Committee (MESMAC) has approved the Emergency Treatment Protocols, commonly referred to as Transfers of Function, for use by Manitoba licensed EMS personnel under their Medical Director’s authority and direction.
