EMS Rural and Northern Manitoba Return Of Service Initiative

The emergency medical services (EMS) rural and northern return of service initiative provides a financial incentive to graduates of Red River College Primary Care Paramedicine (PCP) program to seek employment in rural and northern communities.

A Red River College PCP graduate, licensed as a Technician-Paramedic, who accepts a position with a licensed land EMS service, may be eligible for the return of service initiative. The following services are not eligible: Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service, Brandon Fire & EMS Service, CFB Shilo Emergency Services and Thompson Fire & EMS Service.

The paramedic is required to:

  • enter into an employment agreement with an eligible Manitoba employer
  • obtain an application from an eligible EMS employer in December and submit the completed application before January 30
  • provide 1000 hours of direct service within one year of employment starting April 1, after the application is submitted

Eligibility criteria may vary from year to year.

Eligibility criteria and applications are provided to licensed land EMS service licence holders annually (December).  Please contact your employer for additional information.

Previous recipients of this initiative are not eligible.

Re-payment of this financial incentive is mandatory if the applicant does not provide 1000 hours of direct service within one year.

Please note office hours: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. If you need help in a medical emergency, please contact 911.
