Health Information Privacy Committee (HIPC)

Submission Information

Access to personal health information held by the Government of Manitoba and its agencies for research purposes is obtained through the Health Information Privacy Committee.

All submissions to HIPC must be made on the Committee Submission Form (v. June 2011). This document is provided in MS Word (.doc) format and is a form-fill application. Also provided is the Guidelines for Completing a Request for Access to Health Information. This document will aid the researcher in answering certain questions on the submission form. 

Additionally, any significant changes to the originally proposed study design should be reported to the Chair/HIPC for review and approval in advance of its implementation. The Protocol Amendment form (v. June 2011) is provided in MS Word (.doc) format and is a form-fill application. Also provided is the Guidelines for Completing a Protocol Amendment Form.

Please note:  In addition to HIPC approval, you may also be required to enter into a research agreement with Manitoba Health before receiving data.

Deadline for receipt of submissions is two weeks before the meeting.
11 copies of the submission and supporting documents should be sent to the Committee Coordinator at the address below.

The next scheduled HIPC meetings are:

  • June 19, 2012 (submission deadline:  June 5, 2012)
  • September 11, 2012 (submission deadline:  August 28, 2012)

NOTE: The HIPC will not meet in July and August.
