The Nurses Recruitment and Retention Fund was established in 1999 to assist with the recruitment and retention of Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and Registered Psychiatric Nurses in Manitoba.  Listed below are the wide range of strategies that NRRF funds, as well as information on application forms and policies.

Manitoba Nursing Labour Market Supply - 2010:

One of the goals of the March 2000 Nursing Strategy is to increase the supply of nurses. Manitoba is experiencing continued growth in the number of active practising nurses as a result of expansions to nursing education programs and the Nurses Recruitment and Retention Fund.

Personal Care Home Grant:

Recipients meeting the eligibility criteria can apply to the Nurses Recruitment and Retention fund for a grant in the amount of $2000.00.  more

Refresher Courses for RNs

Financial assistance for up to 80% of course costs (up to a maximum of $2,000) per individual are available to complete nursing refresher programs, and are offered by distance education.  more

Relocation Assistance:

The "Come Home to Manitoba" campaign was established to support recruitment of nurses to Manitoba, offering relocation assistance, up to $5,000 for nurses who come to this province to work.  more

Conditional Grant for Manitoba's Nursing Graduates:

Recipients meeting the eligibility criteria can apply to the Nurses Recruitment and Retention fund for a grant in the amount of $4000.00.  more

Continuing Education Funding:

The NRRF has allocated more than $9.7 million to the Regional Health Authorities to support ongoing education for nurses, in addition to educational monies provided within the collective agreement.  Nurses may access these funds by contacting their Regional Continuing Education Committees.  more

Specialty Programs/Projects:

Targeting both the recruitment and retention of nurses, the NRRF has allocated ‘one-time’ funding for a range of specialty programs and projects that help nurses enter, or remain in, Manitoba’s nursing workforce.  more
