Physician Management Institute

The Physician Management Institute (PMI) workshop series, offered by the Canadian Medical Association (CMA), has been a mainstay for the past 25 years in providing support for physicians to create positive change in our health system. PMI provides physicians with the management skills that they require to take an active part in the evolution of health care and feel confident in forming partnerships with hospitals, regions and governments to improve patient care.

The PMI is a key resource for physician leaders who want to develop their capacity to steward our health care system into the future. This is accomplished through a series of five professional development workshops that deliver highly relevant content through a variety of learning techniques.  Manitoba Health and Healthy Living Primary Health Care Branch (PHC) have, in partnership, sponsored the first three PMI levels.

• PMI Level I: Effective management and leadership begins with self-awareness
• PMI Level II: High performance teams need inspirational leaders
• PMI Level III: Negotiation and conflict management: vital skills for success

The PHC branch is anticipating sponsoring the remaining levels.

• PMI Level IV: Change management: successful planning and implementation
• PMI Level V: Strategic thinking: acting today while planning for the future

Manitoba Health in partnership with the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority is pleased to offer an in-house Physician Manager Institute (PMI) – Advanced Level Strategic Planning workshop to Manitoba physicians. This workshop was formally the Level 5 core program workshop.
