How Were PIN Sites Selected?
In June 2006 the initiative solicited group practice sites interested
in actively participating in the development and implementation
of this initiative. This was accomplished through a mailing of the
Initiative Summary
,
Site
Selection Criteria
and an Application
of Interest
to all family physicians in Manitoba. Interested fee-for-service
group medical practices were asked to complete an Application of
Interest form and submit it by Friday, June 30, 2006.
A selection advisory committee was struck to review applications
and make recommendations to Manitoba Health on potential demonstration
sites. The response to the request for Applications of Interest
from both rural and urban group practice sites exceeded expectations.
Due to the positive response to the PIN Initiative Manitoba Health
increased the number of potential demonstration sites from two to
four sites.
Participating Sites - Demonstration Sites
The three group practices that are participating as demonstration
sites in the PIN Initiative are:
- Agassiz Medical Centre in Morden
- Dr. C. W. Wiebe Medical Centre in Winkler
- Assiniboine Medical Clinic in Winnipeg
Group practices that expressed an interest in the PIN initiative,
but are not an initial demonstration site, have been invited to
participate as the implementation plan evolves.
Control Site
The Steinbach Family Medical Center has been selected as the control practice
group for the PIN Initiative. The Steinbach Family Medical Center, similar to the
demonstration sites, will work on entering data appropriately into
their Electronic Medical Record (EMR). The control site will not,
however, introduce practice changes. Having data from both demonstration
sites and the control site will help in the evaluation and potential
future roll-out of the PIN initiative.
