Sexually Transmitted Infections and Blood Borne Pathogens  Sexually Transmitted Infections and Bloodborne Pathogens

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are infections that are transmitted through sexual contact (oral, vaginal or anal) with an infected individual.  Bloodborne pathogens are infections that are transmitted by blood.  Some infections (HIV/AIDS, hepatitis B, hepatitis C and syphilis) are capable of being transmitted through both sexual and blood borne transmission routes.  More information regarding the occurrence of these infections and the strategies and resources for the prevention, treatment and care of affected individuals in Manitoba is provided below. Information on STI prevention and treatment may also be obtained from the AIDS/STI Information Line at 945-2437 or 1-800-782-2437 or call Health Links-Info Santé at 788-8200 or 1-888-315-9257.
