Welcome
I
am excited at the role of Manitoba Culture, Heritage and Tourism
in supporting healthy child development in our province. We are
committed to building wellness through community resources, recreation
programs, and youth development initiatives. The latest research
from the National Longitudinal Survey of Children and Youth shows
how participation in recreational and cultural activities can
make an enormous difference in the lives of children as they develop
self-esteem, a sense of identity, social engagement and responsibility,
and skills for lifelong learning. We must continue to improve
the availability and accessibility of these resources for all
families in Manitoba.
Healthy Child Manitoba's mission is to facilitate community
development for the well-being of children and youth. As resources
for families and their children, Manitoba's neighbourhood
programs, public libraries, cultural and recreation centres all
help create places of belonging, participation, and a sense of
community. We know these are the basic elements of a civic society
- the foundation of all successful programs and services.
I encourage all Manitobans to continue to work together as a
province to sustain this foundation and create the society that
we want for our families and communities. Manitoba has an incredible
opportunity to raise the quality of life of its children and teamwork
across departments and sectors is essential in accomplishing this
goal.
The Honourable Eric Robinson
Minister of Culture, Heritage and Tourism
