Welcome
Manitoba
Education, Citizenship and Youth envisions learning success for
all children and youth in Manitoba. Research findings have shown
us that the foundations of successful learning begin in the earliest
years of development, from the prenatal period through infancy and
the preschool years. Indeed, the first educators are parents, caregivers,
and other significant adults in a growing child's life.
Our department recently began an Early Childhood Development
Initiative to facilitate children's readiness to learn before
commencing school. This is one of many initiatives that Manitoba
has integrated into its early years continuum of services and
supports. Healthy Child Manitoba is an innovative and incredible
opportunity for departments and communities to collaborate, share
resources, and support the potential of our children as they move
through adolescence into adulthood as lifelong learners.
As Minister Responsible for Youth, I am excited to be working
together with the other Healthy Child Ministers, with Manitoba's
child care and preschool community, school divisions, and with
Manitoba citizens in moving towards supporting children's successful
transitions as they enter school and grow into tomorrow's adults.
Research shows that the long-term success of Early Childhood Development
initiatives depends greatly on what happens afterwards. Manitoba
Education, Citizenship and Youth is committed to helping sustain
and enhance children's development through the school years and
beyond. I hope you will join us in making our vision a reality.
The Honourable Peter Bjornson
Minister of Education, Citizenship and Youth
