Supportive and safe relationships, good self-esteem, and knowledge about preventing unplanned pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections are some of the many aspects of healthy sexuality. By providing information, education, programs and services through funded agencies and health authorities across the province, the provincial government supports all Manitobans in making informed choices about healthy sexual practices.
Manitoba Healthy Living, Seniors and Consumer Affairs supports a range of community-based initiatives that are aimed at improving and maintaining good sexual health. Here are just a few of the initiatives currently underway:
- Manitoba HIV Program provides a single-point of entry centralized service for Manitobans living with HIV. Through the program individuals have access to a range of services.
- Winnipeg’s first ever rapid HIV testing through pilot project in partnership with the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority.
- Northern and rural initiatives being developed in partnership with Regional Health Authorities to provide new programs and resources geared towards youth. The goal of these initiatives is to promote the importance of good sexual health, reduce rates of sexually transmitted infections, and reduce the rates of unplanned teen pregnancies.
- Continued support for teen health clinics in Brandon, Central and North Eastman Regional Health Authorities.
