Honourable
Kerri Irvin-Ross,
Minister responsible for Healthy Living
Welcome to the Healthy Schools website, featuring lots of great
information for healthy students, teachers, schools and communities.
We know good health is an important factor in quality education
and this site provides comprehensive, up-to-date resources for:
- fun, effective physical activity
- healthy eating and nutrition
- personal safety and injury prevention
- substance abuse and addiction
- sexual and reproductive health
- mental health promotion
As Minister responsible for Healthy Living, I know that healthy
adults start with healthy young people and school is one of the
best places to learn important habits that ensure a lifetime of
physical, emotional and social well-being.
The provincial government designed the Healthy Schools initiative
to promote healthy students, families, school staff and school communities.
It highlights the value of healthy living in our daily routines
and provides information, services and support to help accomplish
that.
The website will provide you with information about the Healthy
Schools initiative, a broad range of services, advice, programs
and supports, along with links to other useful websites. I encourage
you to use the links in this site for information or email healthyschools@gov.mb.ca
with any questions or suggestions.
Peter
Bjornson
Minister of Education, Citizenship and Youth
Thank you for visiting this website, showing your interest in Healthy
Schools, our government’s comprehensive school health initiative.
The Healthy Schools initiative encourages the development of healthy
school environments and community partnerships that foster the well-being
of everyone associated with our schools.
Research continues to show that good health has a positive effect
on learning so naturally, schools have a significant role to play
in promoting healthy living. Considering schools tend to be focal
points in our communities, they are excellent places to educate
the citizens, present and future, about the value of taking a proactive
approach to one’s own health.
I invite you to further explore this site where you will find information
and ideas about how to improve the physical, emotional and social
health of students, school staff, families and school communities.
By working together, we can create healthier communities that will
benefit the entire province for many years to come.
