Manitoba Housing offers housing accommodations for seniors 55+ throughout Manitoba.
The seniors designated locations in the City of Winnipeg have studio apartments that are rented to single seniors and one-bedroom apartments are rented to couples. In the rural communities, some senior locations may only have one bedroom. In this case, a single senior would receive a one-bedroom apartment.
The first month's rent payment is requested before the tenant(s) move into the apartment. A damage deposit is not required. Rent includes heat and water. Electricity and additional services, such as medical alarms, are extra.
Rental rates for a studio apartment is 25% of total gross income. Rent for a 1 bedroom apartment is 27% of total gross income.

To ensure that senior tenants receive at least one healthy and nutritious meal daily, a congregate meal service is provided in some seniors buildings throughout the province. Meal menus are posted every month and participants are asked to make a reservation at least 3 hours in advance before serving time. One fresh, hot meal is served daily, including a beverage and dessert, for a reasonable cost. Depending on the kitchen, business hours vary and serving times are either at lunch or supper.
Tenants may either dine in with friends and neighbours or have a meal delivered to his or her apartment.
Check with your Manitoba Housing leasing office to see if there is a congregate meal program available in your building. For more information see the meal program brochure. (PDF)
