Community Youth Recreation

What is this program about?

The Community Youth Recreation (CYR) fund provides up to $100,000 annually across Neighbourhoods Alive! communities outside of Winnipeg. This funding supports enhanced youth recreation programming in rural communities.

Where is this funding available?

The Community Youth Recreation fund is available in all designated Neighbourhoods Alive! communities/ neighbourhoods outside of Winnipeg.

Who can apply?

Eligible applicants must be a municipal government recreation program or organizations who operate a Lighthouses program within a NA! designated community.

What levels of funding are involved?

The level of funding is dependant on the size of the neighbourhood and/or community. The following is a notional distribution of funds based on population:

  • Brandon - $25,000
  • Thompson - $15,000
  • Flin Flon, The Pas, Dauphin, Portage la Prairie and Selkirk - $12,000 each.

What are the criteria?

  • Proposed projects must create an enhancement to existing activities (i.e. additional hours of operation or increased access by youth) or offer new programming.
  • Funds cannot be used as replacement funds for ongoing programming.
  • Activities that offer new skills or equipment to youth to encourage continued participation in activities should consider accessibility to the activity on an ongoing basis.
  • Projects that target at-risk youth are preferred.
  • Projects that support ongoing activities (e.g. weekly or daily activities) are preferred.
  • Capital costs are not considered eligible

How do you apply?

Applications are distributed to municipalities and Lighthouse sites each fall for submission to Neighbourhoods Alive!
