Family And Seniors Housing Project Announced For Swan RiverMay 13, 2011 - Seniors and families living in the Swan River area can look forward to a new, 24-unit affordable housing project, Housing and Community Development Minister Kerri Irvin-Ross announced today. "Our government is committed to helping Manitobans access safe, affordable housing," said Irvin Ross. The new complex, to be called Sunset Place, is being developed and managed by the Swan River Friendship Centre Housing Corporation and will replace Crestview Courts, a 16-unit housing complex that recently burned down. "The 24-unit project will provide needed housing for seniors and families from the surrounding area and the construction will generate new jobs and support local businesses in the Swan River area," said Finance Minister Rosann Wowchuk, speaking in the community today. The project will include a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom units appropriate for seniors and small families. Construction is expected to start in the fall of 2011 and be completed in the fall of 2012. "Projects like this are vital to the life of our community," said Elbert Chartrand, chair of the Swan River Friendship Centre. "We're providing seniors with the option to remain in their community surrounded by friends and family. This is an important project for the community of Swan River and it's great to work with such committed partners who want to see this project succeed."
