Neighbourhood Development Assistance

What is this program about?

Neighbourhood Development Assistance provides funding to support the formation and operation of democratic Neighbourhood Renewal Corporations (NRCs), to enable them to plan and coordinate neighbourhood renewal efforts through community economic development.

Where is this funding available?

Neighbourhood Development Assistance is available only in communities designated by Neighbourhoods Alive!.

Hardware storeWho currently receives funding?

This program funds representative community groups involved in developing a Neighbourhood Renewal Corporation (NRC) or that have already been incorporated as an NRC, where the – Corporation:

  • Operates in and represents neighbourhoods designated under Neighbourhoods Alive!
  • Operates in territory that does not overlap the territory of another NRC.
  • Is administered locally and is accountable to the neighbourhood.
  • Is democratic and representative of neighbourhood diversity.
  • Is incorporated or in the process of becoming a non-share capital corporation.

  • North End Community Renewal Corporation
  • Spence Neighbourhood Association
  • Thompson Neighbourhood Renewal Corporation
  • West Broadway Development Corporation
  • Central Neighbourhoods Development Corporation
  • Daniel Mclntyre / St. Matthews Community Association

What funding is available?

New NRCs are eligible for up to $25,000 in start-up funding and up to $75,000 a year in core operating funding.

What type of complementary support is required?

An NRC will be expected to seek operational economies through partnerships, alliances, volunteers and in-kind support, and to actively pursue broad-based, diversified funding.
