Training Initiatives
What is this program about?
The program has been developed to help inner-city residents obtain
sustainable employment through development of workplace training
opportunities. Training program development is aimed particularly
at occupations where shortages of skilled workers have been identified.
How
are projects developed?
Manitoba Education, Citizenship and Youth, and Manitoba Advanced
Education and Training develop projects in consultation with other
provincial government departments, educational institutions and
community partners. Funding for training program development is
available only to departments involved in developing initiatives.
Training initiatives are typically intended for currently-designated
Neighbourhoods Alive! communities in Winnipeg, Thompson and Brandon.
Training programs developed through this initiative must meet
strict criteria such as the following:
- Programs must be accepted for high school
or post-secondary accreditation.
- Training must allow learners to work
toward future diploma or degree programs.
- Training must be intended for designated
NA! communities.
- Training-related employment opportunities
for graduates must be available within designated NA! communities.
- EIA (Employment and Income Assistance)
clients and youth with multiple barriers are targeted.
- Training will target entry-level positions
in fields such as health care and family services, that offer
attractive wage and career advancement opportunities.
- Programs must be able to achieve strong
graduation and employment results.
