The new Winnipeg Community Infrastructure Program will support recreation facilities and community centres throughout Winnipeg. Funding is application based, and provided through the Manitoba Building and Renewal Plan. Through the Building and Renewal Plan, the Manitoba Government is now spending two full points of PST revenue on infrastructure. One seventh of PST is dedicated to municipal infrastructure through the Building Manitoba Fund, which is increasing by almost $30 million this year. In 2013, Manitoba will invest over $290M through the BMF in municipal infrastructure and transit priorities across the Province.
This new program will provide grants to support the rehabilitation, improvement or expansion of "not-for-profit" or City-owned existing community recreation facilities. A total of $7.5 million in funding is available over three years for eligible projects undertaken throughout the City of Winnipeg.
The program provides grants with no requirement of matching funding from project proponents. Examples of eligible projects include:
