Key Information

  • Location: Garden Valley School Division is located in south-central Manitoba, Canada. The Division Office is in the City of Winkler, which is one hour and ten minutes drive south from the capital city, Winnipeg, and twenty minutes drive from the United States border.
    The Division consists of one high school and six primary/elementary school administrative units.
  • Accommodation Options: Private Housing
  • Health Insurance Requirement: Health insurance is available to all students at a reasonable rate. While it is not compulsory, it is highly recommended.
  • Student Population: Garden Valley School Division has a student population of approximately 4000 students, Grades k - 12. The high school, Garden Valley Collegiate, has an enrolment of approximately 1200 students. Enrolments in the six primary/elementary school administrative units vary from 200 to 600.
    One third of our students are recent immigrants to Canada. They are mainly of German Mennonite decent and come from Germany, Russia, Mexico, Paraguay, and Belize.
  • Study Periods: Schools open the first Monday after Labour Day in September and close the last Friday of June in the following year. It is preferred that International students begin in September.

Institutional Profile

Garden Valley School Division is a very progressive school division offering a wide range of core and optional programs.

Core programs include: English Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, French, German, Physical Education, Art, and Music.

Optional programs include: English Second Language (ESL), Choir, Band, Home Economics, Industrial Arts, Technical/Vocational, Information Technology, Business Education and Advanced Placement,

Modified Programs and Individual Program Plans are available for special needs students

Schools offer a wide range of co-curricular and extra-curricular programs in Music, Drama, Information Technology, and in all major sports.

A Growing Division

Garden Valley School Division is one of the fastest growing divisions in Manitoba, with an average annual enrolment increase of approximately 85 students. Growth is largely due to German and Mexican immigration.

Continuous growth provides opportunities to improve facilities and increase program offerings. The Public Schools Finance Board has recently approved a new Middle School for Winkler and the board has recently purchased a wood manufacturing facility to expand technical/vocational programs.

Tuition and Fees

The yearly tuition for a foreign student is calculated as the average cost per student in Garden Valley School Division and is subject to change every school year.

Enrolment Information

All foreign students wishing to attend Garden Valley School Division must complete the appropriate International Student Application form.

Foreign students must be eligible to study in Canada and provide current transcripts.
