Selkirk's surrounding area has much to offer, with Lake Winnipeg and its beautiful beaches to the north, and Whiteshell Provincial Park to the east; both providing excellent swimming, fishing, boating, hiking, and camping opportunities, a short drive from Selkirk. To the west we have Oak Hammock Marsh and the wetlands, which are home to many birds and animals. South of Selkirk we are rich in history with Lower Fort Garry, a national historic fort and St. Andrews Church , the oldest stone church in western Canada .
There are 15 public schools in Lord Selkirk School Division (Kindergarten to Grade 12), one of which is a high school.
