Manitoba Indigenous Reconciliation

Northern Youth Empowerment Initiative

The Northern Youth Empowerment Initiative (NYEI) provides financial help and program support to programs or projects in northern Manitoba that are focused on youth, with a preference for those that are:

  • community based
  • wholly or partially driven or led by youth
  • based on well-established, evidence-based models known to produce positive outcomes for youth
  • designed to impact or affect large numbers of youth

The NYEI provides funding for selected community-based projects, ranging from $5,000 to a maximum of $20,000. The NYEI may also, on request, provide program support to successful applicants for project development, implementation and evaluation. NYEI's main goal is to create sustainable opportunities for youth, initiatives that show considerable promise and positive impacts may be considered for multi-year funding.

The intake for project proposals is continuous throughout the fiscal year.  If you have any questions please contact Indigenous Reconciliation and Northern Relations, Policy and Strategic Initiatives Branch at 204-945-2510.

Please note that the NYEI fund is now aligned with the Look North Action Plan, specifically the youth leadership and community engagement components.  For more information on the Look North Action Plan, please go to www.looknorthmb.ca
