Community Development
The Community Development Branch of Municipal Relations works to strengthen community planning and development in neighborhoods, communities and regions across Manitoba by co‑ordinating delivery of programs and technical assistance to increase municipal and organizational capacity, assisting municipalities and community organizations in undertaking projects that provide long-term benefits to their communities and encouraging regional approaches.
The Branch provides capacity-building, advisory and consultative support of community‑based and regional organizations and local government. It focuses staffing and on‑line resources to assist organizations to be more self-sufficient, strengthen governance and enable improved outcomes including access to programs, grants and resources, in partnership with other departments and organizations.
The Branch also provides grant support to the non-profit sector in Manitoba. Its Community Development Program consolidates funding and commitments to non-profit organizations and local governments for community development activities, and related partnership projects across Manitoba. The Community Development Program also supports youth employment through the delivery of the Green Team grants.

From the Ground Up - Safe Healthy Communities for ALL Program
The new community development program supports the province's commitment to build safe, healthy communities where individuals, children, youth and families can thrive.
The new program provides application-based project funding to support a broad range of community renewal efforts, community capital projects and children and youth initiatives. It will focus on community led response and revitalization efforts including capacity building, wellness and safety, community economic development, social inclusion, housing coordination and children and youth initiatives. The program leverages investments in community development by local governments, non-profit organizations, and others. Program streams include Community Renewal Initiatives, Community Spaces and Healthy, Safe, Connected Children and Youth. Eligible applicants include non-profit organizations, municipalities (including local authorities such as planning and recreation districts) and Northern Affairs Community Councils.

Creates summer employment opportunities for youth aged 15 to 29 years. Approved applicants provide a variety of community development projects that improve neighbourhoods, promote community involvement and help develop young leaders. Eligible applicants include: municipal governments (other than the City of Winnipeg), Northern Affairs Community Councils, non-profit organizations and education authorities throughout Manitoba.
The program's March 4, 2024 intake is now closed and is no longer accepting applications.
The Building Sustainable Communities Program is no longer available.
