February 4, 2015 - Manitoba Government Launches Strategy to Create Jobs for People who Face Barriers to Employment - Winnipeg, Manitoba –  Social Entreprise Strategy Partners with Community Groups to Reduce Poverty, Increase Inclusion: Minister Irvin-Ross - The Manitoba government is launching a new strategy (PDF) to reduce poverty and promote social inclusion by partnering with community groups to create jobs for those facing serious barriers to work, Housing and Community Development Minister Kerri Irvin-Ross and Jobs and the Economy Minister Kevin Chief announced today.

Dugald, Manitoba is the little town with a big vision. Today the community turned the sod on a $14.5 Million, 47-unit seniors housing development in with the help of dignitaries (in the foreground) from left to right: Lesley Thomson (in white sweater), Chair of the Springfield Seniors Non-Profit Housing Co-op; Jim McCarthy, Reeve of the RM of Springfield; Gisele MacDonald, President of ReSolve Project Management; the Honourable Peter Bjornson, Minister of Housing and Community Development; Dave Hergesheimer, CEO of the Oakbank Credit Union; Bruce Friesen, Treasurer of the Dugald United Church. Dugald Estates is a 55+ seniors housing co-op with suites ranging from 600 sq ft to 1482 sq ft. The project is being led by a the Springfield Seniors Non-Profit Housing Co-op which is entirely volunteer led and whose mission is to provide housing for rural seniors to enable them to stay within their communities and connected to their social networks as they age. Dugald Estates, located within minutes of Oakbank and Winnipeg, is designed for seniors who enjoy rural living close to city amenities. Photographer is Ron Sellen.

July 3, 2014 - Construction Underway On 47-suite, $14.5m Seniors Housing Co-op In Dugald (Press release PDF) - Dugald, Manitoba –  A new $14.5M, 47-unit co-op housing development that provides quality and affordable accommodation for rural seniors, officially started construction in the RM of Springfield today with a community sod-turning celebration joined by the Honourable Peter Bjornson, Minister of Housing and Community Development, and Jim McCarthy, Reeve of the RM of Springfield.

NorWest Co-op Community Health Centre to Create Winnipeg's First Community Food Centre to Help Families

June 19, 2012 - Cooperation leads to composting: Launch of a residential composting initiative in St. Pierre-Jolys and the RM of De Salaberry (PDF) - Winnipeg, Manitoba – For the first time in rural Manitoba, an organic waste collection service will be offered to local residents. This joint initiative between the Village of St. Pierre-Jolys and the Rural Municipality of De Salaberry, in partnership with CDEM and Compo-Stages Manitoba Services Co-op, promises to reduce the amount of waste transported to landfill sites, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

June 1, 2012, Governments of Canada and Manitoba Celebrate New Affordable Housing for Seniors in Winnipeg - Winnipeg, Manitoba – The Governments of Canada and Manitoba today announced $7.77 million in joint funding for a new affordable housing Cooperative in the Brooklands area of Winnipeg. The 36 units will enhance housing quality and accessibility for seniors in Winnipeg. Celebrations took place at a groundbreaking ceremony. International Year of the Cooperatives Celebrated in Manitoba

The United Nations International Year of Cooperatives was launched in Manitoba today at the Legislative Building by Housing and Community Development Minister Kerri Irvin-Ross, minister responsible for Cooperative development, and Family Services and Consumer Affairs Minister Gord Mackintosh who celebrated the importance of more than 400 Cooperatives to the province's economy.
