1. How long does the process take?
Employer applications to the provincial nominee program will take 6 – 8 weeks for assessment. If your business has been approved to hire a foreign worker(s) it will then be up to you to find a suitable candidate to fill the position. Once you have interviewed and selected a potential candidate, that person must complete and submit a Manitoba Provincial Nominee Application for consideration of nomination under the Employer Direct Stream. This application will be assessed as a priority assessment. Once the candidate has been nominated, they must submit an application for permanent residency through the Canadian Visa Office which services their country.
2. If the person does not work out, am I responsible to keep this person employed?
People you employ on a temporary work permit are subject to the same employment standards as a permanent resident. As such they must meet your company’s probationary period. We ask employers be directly involved with the screening and interviewing of potential candidates to ensure they are offering the position to the most suitable person for the position.
3. What are the costs involved?
There are no costs for employers to apply to the MPNP for pre-approved employment offers, and there are no costs for the applicant to apply to the MPNP once the employer has been approved. Once the intended applicant has been issued a certificate of nomination and applies to the Canadian Visa post, they will incur an application processing fee and once they have been approved for a permanent resident visa, there is a fee for the processing of the permanent resident visa.
4. Are there any occupations which cannot be approved through the MPNP?
Occupations which require a Manitoba license or certification in order to work must provide proof of licensing or certification before the applicant can be eligible for assessment under the MPNP. See the List of Occupational Requirements.
