This page lists Adult English as an Additional Language classes being held during the summer. Avoid disappointment, register now.

Living English
Date of program: July 7, 2008 - August 22, 2008
Location: Red River College - Princess Campus: 3rd Floor, 160 Princess Street
Level: Canadian Language Benchmarks 1 - 5 , including literacy
Class time: Monday to Friday, 9 a.m.- 12 p.m. plus two afternoon outings each week
Registration: To take this class you must register through your current English as an Additional Language school or through the Winnipeg English Language Assessment and Referral Centre, 4th Floor, 275 Portage Avenue, phone 943-5387. You will need a WELARC referral letter or current Canadian Language Benchmark report.
Child care is available for children ages 1 to 5 years.

Winnipeg Technical College
Level: Canadian Language Benchmarks 1 - 6
Location: Winnipeg Technical College, Erin Street Campus, 609 Erin Street
Program date: July 7 - August 22
Class time: Monday - Thursday, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m..
Registration: You must contact the Winnipeg English Language Assessment and Referral Centre to register, 4th Floor, 275 Portage Avenue, phone 943-5387.
English for Seniors Summer Classes
Students must be 55 years or older.
Registration: You must get an assessment and referral from the Winnipeg English Language Assessment and Referral Centre, 4th Floor, 275 Portage Avenue, phone 943-5387.
Choose one of four classes:

Class 1: Tuesdays, 9:30 - 11:30 a.m., June 17 - July 22
Level: Canadian Language Benchmarks levels 1 - 4
Location: Epiphany Lutheran Church, 200 Dalhousie Drive

Class 2: Wednesdays, 9:30 - 11:30 a.m., June 18 - July 23
Level: Canadian Language Benchmarks levels 5 and up
Location: Age & Opportunity Office, 2nd Floor, 280 Smith Street, Winnipeg

Class 3: Thursdays, 9:30 - 11:30 a.m., June 19 - July 24
Level: In this time slot there are two classes: Canadian Language Benchmarks levels 1, 3 & 4
Location: West End Seniors Centre, 644 Burnell Street
McLeod Summer Evening Classes
Level: Canadian Language Benchmarks 1 - 6.
Date of program: July 7 - August 27
Location: McLeod Adult Learning Centre, 530 McLeod Avenue
Class schedule: Mondays and Wednesdays, 6 - 9 p.m.
Registration: You can start the program on any Monday or Wednesday. To register go to the learning centre before the start of class.

ENTRY Program
Program description: In-depth orientation on important topics for all newcomers (at any language level). Appointments for a Canadian Language Benchmarks assessment will be made for each student.
Program date: Classes run all summer. You can begin at any time.
Location: 4th Floor - 259 Portage Avenue
Registration: You must go in person to register, Monday - Thursday from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. at the program office. (You can also register on Fridays before 3 p.m.) You must bring your immigration papers and Manitoba Health Card.
Class schedule:

Four-week program; choose one time slot:
Mornings: Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Afternoons: Monday to Friday, 12:30 - 3:30 p.m.
Evenings: Monday to Thursday, 5:30 - 8:30 p.m.

One-week program ("Express orientation" for advanced learners with busy schedules):
Mornings: Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Evenings: Monday to Thursday, 5:30 - 8:30 p.m.

Expanded Orientation (covers special topics and computer skills):
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 12:30 - 2 p.m.
Work Start
Program description: If you need to learn English to get a job this program can help you. Classes focus on workplace health and safety and is for people seeking entry-level work.
Level: Canadian Language Benchmarks 3-5
Program date: June 16 - July 11
Class time: Monday - Friday, 9:15 - 2:45
Location: 2nd Floor, 696 Portage Avenue, Room 206
Registration: Apply in person between 9:30 - 2 p.m.

English Skills Centre
Program date: June 23 - August 29
Location: 15th Floor - 275 Portage Avenue
Program description: focus is English for business and professions. There are special classes in pronunciation, listening strategies, applied grammar, reading and professional writing.
Level: Canadian Language Benchmarks 5 - 8.
Class schedule: Monday - Friday. Choose one session: Mornings, 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., Afternoons, 1 - 4 p.m., Evenings, 6 - 9 p.m.
Registration: Register in person at English Skills Centre, Monday - Thursday, 9 a.m. - 8 p.m., Friday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
