After newcomers have received the arrival orientation and employment supports they need to get started in Manitoba, they can take advantage of ongoing settlement integration supports available to them throughout Winnipeg and in every region of our province.
In Winnipeg, the Immigrant Centre provides assistance with a variety of settlement needs including documentation, housing, volunteer language tutors, English conversation groups, and citizenship test preparation.
In each area of the city, immigrants receive personal help with settlement issues through a network of Neighbourhood Immigrant Settlement Workers.
In regional Manitoba, settlement agencies such as Westman Immigrant Services in Brandon, South Central Immigrant Services in Morden, Altona and Winkler, and Eastman Immigrant Services in Steinbach provide settlement supports to immigrants in those communities and surrounding areas.
Immigrants and refugees who need additional support with family, health and other issues are referred to specialized agencies that provide the appropriate professional supports. These agencies include NEEDS (for refugee youth) and Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization of Manitoba (housing and other programs). Professional interpreter services are also available.
Additional immigration, integration and employment-related services are also provided.
Refugees, both government and privately sponsored, receive services from Welcome Place. Both Accueil francophone and Welcome Place meet the particular needs of their clientele and ensure clients are referred appropriately to other agencies in the Service Continuum.
